The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai has announced an extended spring break for most private schools, coinciding with the observance of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr in 2024. According to the authority’s website, the break will commence on March 25 and conclude on April 15 for schools that begin their academic year in September.
This year, the spring break falls within the Ramadan period, which is expected to commence on March 11 or 12. The three-week holiday period encompasses the anticipated Eid Al Fitr celebrations, likely to start on April 8 or 9, although official dates are subject to confirmation closer to the holidays based on moon sighting.
KHDA emphasizes that private schools are only permitted to tentatively communicate public holidays such as Eid to parents until they are officially declared by the UAE government authority.
Schools commencing their academic year in April, particularly Indian and Pakistani schools, have the flexibility to close on any day in March, provided they fulfill the required number of school days (182 days) and receive approval from KHDA. During this break, Grade 9 and Grade 11 students will engage in bridge classes to prepare for the transition to Grades 10 and 12, respectively.
The majority of these schools are scheduled to commence the new academic year on April 1 and are anticipated to close again for Eid holidays the following week.
