The Dubai Court of Appeal has affirmed the ruling against an Asian greengrocer who stabbed a fellow countryman during a heated altercation, Gulf Today reported.
The man will serve one month in prison, pay an AED10,000 fine, and face deportation once his sentence is complete.
According to case records, the incident occurred in February last year when a witness saw the victim kick the greengrocer, grab him by the neck, and shove him to the ground before attempting to leave. The accused then stood up, pulled out a work knife, and chased after the victim, stabbing him once in the back and again in the chest. The victim was rushed to hospital with critical injuries, including internal bleeding and spleen damage, and required over 20 days of recovery.
Investigators revealed that the victim had been drinking alcohol with a friend before the altercation. He claimed he only tried to intervene in a brawl between other individuals when the greengrocer attacked him.
Police later arrested the vendor, who admitted to stabbing the victim but said his actions were driven by anger after being assaulted. He maintained that he had no intention to kill but wanted revenge for being attacked.
The court, however, found him guilty of assault and upheld the original verdict.
