Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled an extensive transportation strategy to facilitate the upcoming COP28 conference, ensuring easy, fast, and cost-effective travel for residents. The prestigious event is set to be hosted at Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12.
The RTA’s plan includes dedicated transportation services in both the Blue Zone for official delegations and the Green Zone for business representatives, the public, and participants of the 18th United Nation Climate Change Conference of Youth (COY18). Emphasizing eco-friendly transport, the RTA aims to ensure smooth access within the venue.
A key feature of the plan is the integration of various transit modes including the Dubai Metro, Dubai Bus, and taxis. The Dubai Metro, particularly the Expo 2020 Metro Station, will play a pivotal role, with extended operating hours from 5 am to 1 am the next day during the conference. Free parking facilities at key stations like Centrepoint, Etisalat by e&, and Jebel Ali Station will also be available.
To augment its eco-friendly commitment, the RTA will deploy 67 biofuel-powered buses, supplemented by 10 electric buses, operating at four stops within Expo City Dubai. New bus routes will connect delegates to major city areas, and over 100 directional road signs will guide motorists to the conference site.
The taxi system will include over 10,000 hybrid taxis and 1,000 electric luxury vehicles, with four designated stops within Expo City for easy access.
In a bid to engage youth in climate action, the RTA is providing complimentary ‘pre-charged’ nol cards to young attendees, encouraging the use of public transport as a sustainable travel option. The ‘S’hail’ app is recommended for visitors to navigate the best routes to the conference.
