Dubai reports major drop in road deaths in late 2025

A marked improvement in road safety was recorded in Dubai toward the end of 2025, with official data showing a substantial fall in traffic-related deaths across several categories during the fourth quarter.

According to figures released by the General Department of Traffic, the fatality rate per 100,000 residents declined by 36.8 per cent in the final quarter of 2025 compared with the same period a year earlier. The data also pointed to significant reductions in specific types of incidents, including a 50 per cent decrease in pedestrian deaths and a 44 per cent drop in fatalities resulting from collisions.

These results were examined during a fourth-quarter performance review meeting for 2025, where senior police officials assessed trends in serious accidents alongside enforcement outcomes, traffic violations, the use of monitoring technologies, and the impact of population growth on road conditions.

During the meeting, Major General Hareb Al Shamsi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Sector Affairs, attributed the improvements to coordinated safety efforts supported by modern monitoring systems and intensified patrol operations. He said smart technologies that track driver behaviour, combined with inspection checkpoints, have contributed to better compliance on the roads.

“These measures have played a direct role in improving driver discipline and reducing dangerous practices on the roads,” he said.

Al Shamsi also underlined the need to continue upgrading technical systems and maintaining public awareness initiatives, particularly those addressing risks linked to bicycles, motorcycles, and electric scooters, which remain vulnerable segments of road use.

Discussions at the meeting further emphasized the importance of developing sustainable solutions to traffic challenges and enhancing coordination between traffic departments and police stations to improve response times on major routes used by both residents and visitors.

Dubai Police reiterated their appeal to motorists to follow traffic regulations, noting that enforcement is intended to protect lives and encourage responsible road behaviour. Authorities added that violations considered among the most serious will continue to face firm legal action as part of broader efforts to ensure public safety.
