Dubai reported 254 bicycle and e-scooter-related accidents last year, leading to 10 fatalities and 259 injuries. Among the injuries, 17 were classified as severe, 133 as moderate, and 109 as minor, according to figures shared during a safety awareness campaign by Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The campaign, targeting cyclists and e-scooter users in key areas such as Marina, Al Barsha, Al Satwa, and Al Karama, aims to promote road safety by educating riders on regulations. Authorities emphasized the importance of using designated lanes, wearing protective gear, and ensuring bicycles are equipped with proper lights and brakes.
To curb reckless behavior, Dubai Police have intensified traffic enforcement. Violations, including riding outside designated areas or on roads with speed limits above 60 km/h, carry a fine of Dh300. Non-compliance with technical requirements results in a Dh200 fine, while carrying passengers improperly on bicycles or e-scooters also incurs penalties ranging from Dh200 to Dh300.
Major General Saif Mehir Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, underscored the need for compliance with safety measures to prevent accidents. Residents are encouraged to report unsafe practices through the Dubai Police app or by calling 901.
The RTA, in collaboration with Dubai Police, continues to expand cycling infrastructure and safety initiatives under the ‘Dubai, A Bicycle-Friendly City’ strategy. Recent efforts include digital permits for e-scooter use, safety campaigns, and infrastructure improvements to promote sustainable and safe mobility across the emirate.
