Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the introduction of a ‘Seasonal Network’ operational schedule for its public marine transport services, as reported by Gulf News. This new initiative will adjust the operational timings of all maritime transport services, including the Dubai Ferry, Abra, and Dubai Water Taxi, to better suit the seasonal variations in passenger movement.
The RTA is utilizing big data analytics to observe and respond to daily passenger patterns, tailoring trip timetables and service frequencies for summer and winter seasons. This approach aims to enhance service sustainability, meet customer demands, and improve the occupancy rates while reducing operational costs.
By analyzing extensive data on passenger numbers, revenues, and detailed occupancy rates, the RTA can optimize the efficiency of the network. The seasonal adjustments are expected to provide flexibility in service planning and implementation, ensuring that the transport schedules align closely with the needs of residents, tourists, and visitors throughout the year.
This initiative also involves the development of internal algorithms to process and analyze data from multiple sources, paving the way for a predictive and adaptable operational plan for marine transport in Dubai.
