Dubai Police warn residents of scam impersonating government officials

Dubai Police have issued a cautionary statement to residents about a new scam involving fraudsters impersonating government officials. The police have noticed an increase in fraudulent activities where scammers, posing as Dubai Police employees, are attempting to deceive residents into paying fake traffic fines.

Reports indicate that residents are receiving emails and SMS messages demanding immediate payment of traffic fines. These messages include a payment link, which is part of the scam. Dubai Police have alerted the public through their official social media channels, advising them to be vigilant. They stated, “If you are being asked to make payments via links and share your personal information, stop, verify the sender’s email again, and report it to Dubai Police e-Crime cell, our social media channels, or call 901.”

The police have also provided guidance to help residents identify fake messages. Residents are urged to look out for immediate payment requests, poor grammar, misspelt words, and links for payment in messages. Additionally, messages from unknown numbers or IDs that do not display the name of the authority should be treated with suspicion.
