Dubai Police warn against fake domestic worker hiring ads on social media

Dubai Police’s Anti-Fraud Centre has raised concerns over social media posts advertising recruitment and employment services for domestic workers, warning that many of these listings are designed to extract money unlawfully.

According to the Centre, the schemes are typically run by individuals posing as intermediaries who promise to arrange household help through informal or unofficial channels, bypassing the country’s regulated hiring system.

The advisory stressed that anyone seeking domestic workers should engage only with licensed and authorised agencies operating within the UAE. The Centre cautioned against sending payments to individuals or entities claiming they can secure domestic workers through shortcuts or arrangements that fall outside approved legal procedures, which are intended to safeguard both employers and workers.

The warning forms part of the Centre’s ongoing “Be Aware of Fraud” campaign, which emphasises the need for heightened vigilance when dealing with online offers and the importance of transacting exclusively with trusted, authorised establishments.

Members of the public were encouraged to report suspected or attempted fraud immediately through the Dubai Police smart application or the eCrime platform, or by calling 901.
