As schools in Dubai commence their new academic year, the Dubai Police extended congratulations to the Ministry of Education, students, teachers, administrators, and parents, hoping for a successful and safe start in line with the country’s leadership vision.
The well-wishes were part of a visit by Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs in Dubai Police, to the School of Research Science in Al Warqa. The visit is a component of the ‘Accident-Free Day’ initiative aimed at ensuring the first day of school is devoid of any traffic accidents.
Maj. Gen. Al Ghaithi stressed that the initiative, launched on August 28, complements ongoing efforts to bolster traffic safety. “This community-based awareness initiative coincides with the beginning of the academic year, where traffic education is intensified to encourage public participation in promoting road safety,” he said.
The initiative has had notable success in the past five years, with significant reductions in traffic accidents on the first day of the academic year. Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, also visited several schools and emphasized the initiative’s remarkable success, crediting it to a collective commitment to traffic rules by the community.
Maj. Gen. Al Ghaithi toured classrooms and interacted with faculty and students to drive home the importance of road safety. Officer Mansour, the Dubai Police mascot, enlivened the atmosphere by distributing gifts to students.
Maj. Gen. Al Mazroui pointed out that the campaign aims to change driver behavior through a collective sense of responsibility. “The objective is zero fatalities resulting from accidents on the first day of school,” he said.
Dubai Police have developed a comprehensive marketing strategy to promote ‘Accident-Free Day.’ This includes educational videos, awareness messages on social media, and information dissemination through ATMs, government, and private institutions, as well as commercial centers across the emirate.
