As children dive into summer vacation and spend more time on video games, Dubai Police is urging parents to step in and safeguard their kids from potential cyber threats.
The Cybercrime Department, under the General Department of Criminal Investigation, issued a public reminder emphasizing the role of families as the “first line of defence” in protecting children from online dangers, especially during the school break when gaming activity spikes.
Authorities warned of hidden risks within games—particularly those that allow direct communication with strangers—which can expose children to cyberbullying, fraud, extortion, and inappropriate content.
To counter this, parents are encouraged to activate parental controls, supervise the type of games being played, and ensure the content is suitable for their child’s age. They also advised setting clear time limits and offering alternative educational and recreational activities during the holiday.
Parents were reminded to talk to their children about the dangers of sharing personal information or photos online and to stay alert for signs of digital addiction or harmful behavior.
In case of any suspicious activity or cybercrime linked to gaming, families can report incidents via the Dubai Police’s e-Crime platform, call 901, or use the Dubai Police app or website.
To support community awareness, the department also recommended visiting their bilingual cyber safety education platform at https://ecrimehub.gov.ae/ar, which provides resources for parents, children, businesses, and social media users on how to prevent cyber threats and scams.
