Two motorists in Dubai are facing hefty penalties after being caught on camera performing dangerous stunts by climbing onto the hoods of their moving vehicles in a bid to gain social media attention.
Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said traffic patrols swiftly identified and apprehended the drivers after the videos circulated online. Both vehicles have been impounded, with each driver required to pay an AED 50,000 fine under Decree No. 30 of 2023 to retrieve their cars.
Bin Suwaidan warned that such reckless acts put not only the drivers but also other road users in grave danger, stressing that public roads are not arenas for stunts. “Posting on social media platforms is not a justification for committing traffic violations which endanger lives and public safety,” he said.
He urged the public to follow traffic rules and report any dangerous behaviour through the “Police Eye” service or by calling the non-emergency number 901.
