Dubai police officer honored by President Marcos for championing Filipino welfare

Major Bader Ahmed J. Al Zafeen of the Dubai Police has made history as the first Emirati to receive the prestigious Kaanib ng Bayan Award under the 2024 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas (PAFIOO). This accolade, chaired by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), highlights Major Bader’s exceptional contributions to the Filipino community in the UAE.

In a ceremony held at Malacañan Palace on December 11, 2024, Major Bader was conferred the Gawad ng Pangulo Medal by Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and a Plaque of Recognition by CFO Chairperson Dante Francis M. Ang II. He was among only 13 recipients of the award this year, selected from 84 nominations across 27 countries.

Major Bader’s recognition stems from his groundbreaking DNA initiative, which facilitated the repatriation of at least 118 undocumented Filipino children from Dubai between 2021 and 2023. His efforts, in collaboration with UAE government agencies, ensured free DNA testing and the issuance of exit passes, enabling these children to return to the Philippines and regain access to education and a normal childhood.

The Kaanib ng Bayan Award is given to foreign individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed to the welfare of Filipinos and the development of the Philippines. Major Bader’s dedication exemplifies the impact of global partnerships and his unwavering commitment to uplifting the Filipino community.
