Dubai witnessed a strict enforcement of traffic rules during the National Day holiday, with Dubai Police imposing hefty fines and seizing vehicles for a range of violations. According to a statement released on Saturday, a total of 4,420 dangerous violations were recorded, leading to the seizure of 94 cars and motorcycles.
Major-General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, the director of the General Department of Traffic at the Dubai Police, highlighted the types of violations that were most common. These included reckless driving, performing road stunts, participating in unauthorised parades, and disobeying police instructions. The police department also released a short video showcasing some of these violations.
Under Decree 30, concerning vehicle impound, offenders face severe penalties. Fines for releasing impounded vehicles can reach up to Dh50,000, a significant deterrent against such dangerous behaviours.
The majority of these violations were reported in areas like Al Ruwayyah and Jumeirah, as well as other residential zones. Some drivers were found causing disturbances in desert camps, playing loud music from their vehicles, and performing risky stunts. Others obstructed traffic, and there were cases of illegally modified vehicles and unlicensed engine alterations.
In addition to these offenses, drivers were penalized for overloading vehicles, sticking heads out of windows and sunroofs, using party spray, obscuring licence plates, changing vehicle colour, and tinting or colouring front windows.
To combat this trend of reckless driving, Maj-Gen Al Mazrouei called on parents to play a more active role in monitoring their children’s driving habits. He emphasised the importance of parental supervision in promoting safe driving practices and in reducing the incidence of serious traffic accidents, fatalities, and severe injuries.
