The Dubai Police were inundated with calls this Saturday as severe weather struck the region, prompting an influx of over 10,000 calls to their emergency and non-emergency hotlines. Between 6 am and 3 pm, authorities received a total of 10,232 calls, with the emergency line 999 receiving 9,275 calls and the non-emergency line 901 getting 957 calls.
The Dubai Media Office praised the emergency response teams for their high level of preparedness and efficient management of the situation across the emirate. In response to the adverse weather, a coordinated effort involving 2,300 personnel from various entities, including the Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Police, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment, and Nakheel, was mobilized to tackle emergencies and mitigate the impact of the heavy rains.
These teams were equipped with more than 700 units of machinery, including 250 tankers and 300 rainwater pumps, as well as over 180 emergency and field survey vehicles, to handle the water-logged conditions effectively.
The police have issued a warning urging the public to exercise caution during this period. They emphasized the importance of reserving the 999 hotline for emergencies only, advising the use of the 901 line for non-emergency situations. Additionally, they advised drivers to avoid water-logged, valley, and low-lying areas to protect both lives and property.
Dubai authorities have implemented a comprehensive safety plan, drawing on historical data and previous experiences with rainy seasons to ensure the public’s safety and manage any issues arising from the heavy rains efficiently.
The public is encouraged to report any problems via the smart apps of Dubai Municipality, RTA, and Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment, or through their contact centers at 800900, 8009090, and 80030, respectively.
