The Dubai Police facilitated a heartwarming wedding ceremony within a correctional facility, enabling a young Arab woman to celebrate her marriage with her father, an inmate, by her side.
The bride, who remains unnamed, approached the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments in Dubai with a simple yet profound request: to have her father present during her wedding. Understanding the significance of this moment, she emphasized the importance of her father’s presence in the ceremony.
Moved by her plea, Brigadier Marwan Jalfar, the director of the department, and his team took into account the financial and emotional implications of the father’s absence. Recognizing his role as the family’s primary breadwinner, they decided to support the woman’s request.
In a gesture that extended beyond the mere permission, the Dubai Police also provided a special wedding gift by helping to furnish the newlywed couple’s home. This act of kindness reflects the department’s commitment to maintaining familial bonds, even in challenging circumstances.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Sheikh Ahmed Al Shihi, an Islamic marriage official, who officiated the wedding, ensuring that the proceedings adhered to cultural and religious practices.
This event is part of a series of initiatives by the Dubai Police to care for the families of inmates. In the past year, the department has facilitated emotional reunions, including a woman meeting her father after six years and an inmate reuniting with his son, who he had missed dearly.
