Dubai Police are delving into the realm of robotics by considering the integration of robotic dogs into their forces. These mechanized canines are envisioned to become pivotal assets in crime prevention, perpetrator apprehension, and large-scale raids.
Lieutenant Colonel Salah Al Mazrouei, Director of the Dubai Police Security Inspection Department K9, disclosed the ongoing research and collaboration with advanced companies in this endeavor during the World Police Summit held on Tuesday.
Robotic dogs present a potential paradigm shift in law enforcement operations due to their distinctive capabilities. Their agility and maneuverability make them adept at search and rescue missions, adeptly navigating challenging terrains, and locating missing persons. Furthermore, they can be deployed in hazardous scenarios, such as handling chemical, biological, or explosive threats, thereby minimizing risks to human officers and traditional K9 units.
Lieutenant Colonel Al Mazrouei underscored the incorporation of artificial intelligence into mission operations, with devices equipped with cameras affixed to police dogs enabling real-time monitoring and data collection during assignments. He emphasized the department’s commitment to the well-being of these robotic companions, ensuring their safety during missions in Dubai and across the Emirates.
The integration of advanced sensors and smart systems into the robotic dogs’ equipment allows trainers to receive temperature alerts and remotely monitor their activities. This technological evolution marks a significant leap forward for the Dubai Police, guided by Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police.
Despite the challenges encountered, the Dubai Police persist in seeking innovative solutions. Partnering with Sahara Company, which has supplied cutting-edge dogs since 2019, reflects their dedication to staying at the forefront of law enforcement technology.
“This partnership was made possible by the contributions of over 25 entities involved in securing Expo 2020 and COP28 summit,” Lieutenant Colonel Al Mazrouei was quoted as saying by Khaleej Times.
