The Dubai Police have refuted claims circulating on social media that four Israelis were stabbed in the city. The force emphasized the commitment of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to ensuring the safety and security of its residents and visitors.
The denial was released in an official statement via the Government of Dubai Media Office. The police called on the public to rely on official channels for trustworthy information and cautioned against spreading rumors or unverified reports.
This clarification was necessitated by posts on various social media platforms, including platform X, Instagram, and Telegram, which speculated on the purported crime and even mentioned the arrest of a suspect. Several outlets prematurely flagged these reports as ‘breaking news’.
The false claims are a part of a growing trend of misinformation on social media platforms, particularly in the backdrop of the intensifying Palestine-Israel tensions.
In the UAE, disseminating fake news is not taken lightly. Offenders can face hefty fines of up to Dh100,000 and possible jail time.
