Dubai Police crack down on illegal street vendors selling food in public areas

Dubai Police have arrested ten illegal street vendors for selling food products in public areas without the necessary licences or compliance with health standards. Authorities warned that such operations pose significant safety risks and contribute to the proliferation of makeshift markets that undermine the city’s image.

The arrests were made as part of the police’s Ramadan campaign to enforce public safety regulations. Colonel Ahmad Al Adeedi, Deputy Director of the Suspects and Criminal Phenomena Department, explained that many of these vendors operate near labour accommodations, attracting customers with low-cost food that is often stored and handled under unsanitary conditions.

Major Talib Al Amiri, Head of the Street Vendors Control Section, stressed the potential health hazards associated with consuming food from unlicensed sellers, noting that improper storage can lead to foodborne illnesses. He assured the public that authorities will continue round-the-clock patrols in collaboration with partner agencies to identify and apprehend violators.

Dubai Police urged residents to report illegal street vending through the 901 call centre or the “Police Eye” service on the Dubai Police app.
