Dubai opens two new bridges to cut travel time by up to 70%

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) inaugurated two new bridges on September 15, 2024, as part of the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project in Dubai.

Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the RTA Board, stated that the project will reduce travel time for motorists by up to 70%. The first bridge, measuring 601 meters, is designed to handle 3,200 vehicles per hour and cuts travel time from 20 minutes to 12 minutes for eastbound traffic from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

The second bridge, at 664 meters, has the same capacity and aims to reduce travel time from 21 minutes to 7 minutes for southbound traffic from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Yalayis Street and Jebel Ali Port.

The final phase of the project, a 943-meter bridge connecting Garn Al Sabkha Street and Al Asayel Street, is set to open in October. It will accommodate up to 8,000 vehicles per hour and improve traffic flow between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Currently, 97% of the project is complete, and additional improvements include enhanced road infrastructure, stormwater drainage, and traffic management systems.
