Dubai motorists warned: Failing to stay in lane could cost Dh400 and two weeks impoundment

Dubai Police have reminded motorists of the significant penalties imposed on those who fail to maintain their designated lanes while driving. Offenders face a fine of Dh400 and their vehicles will be impounded for 14 days, in accordance with Article 86 of the UAE’s Federal Traffic Law of 2017.

The authority reported that its smart traffic cameras have been detecting drivers not adhering to lane discipline, a violation that endangers both the driver and other road users. A video shared by Dubai Police illustrated the risks posed by such violations.

Last month, Dubai Police announced stricter measures, including a 30-day vehicle impoundment for repeated traffic offences. Offences such as using mobile phones while driving, tailgating, and sudden lane changes now carry fines ranging from Dh400 to Dh1,000, in addition to four black points. The updated law includes the 30-day impoundment as an added consequence for such violations within Dubai.
