Starting Saturday, August 3, separate Dubai Metro trips will be introduced for passengers traveling to Expo 2020 and UAE Exchange Metro stations, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Friday via a post on X.
According to a Khaleej Times report, passengers heading to either station on the Red Line must ensure they board the correct train to reach their intended destination. Display screens at Metro stations will indicate each train’s route, and commuters are advised to double-check this information before boarding.
This change follows an April announcement from RTA regarding the operation of a Y junction on the Dubai Metro Red Line. This new junction eliminates the need for passengers to interchange at Jabal Ali metro station, allowing for a seamless journey between Centrepoint and UAE Exchange.
In June, the Dubai Executive Council revealed plans to expand the Metro network significantly. By 2030, the number of stations will increase from the current 64 to 96 over 140 square kilometers, and further to 140 stations covering 228 square kilometers by 2040. This expansion aims to boost public transport usage to 45%, reduce carbon emissions to 16 tonnes per capita, and enhance the efficiency and convenience of sustainable transport across the emirate.
