Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled plans to implement a Y junction on the Dubai Metro Red Line starting April 15. This move aims to enhance the commuting experience by eliminating the need for passengers to interchange at Jabal Ali metro station.
Under the new system, commuters traveling from Centrepoint to UAE Exchange and vice versa will enjoy a seamless journey without the hassle of changing trains at Jabal Ali Interchange Station. Hassan Al Mutawa, RTA’s director of rail operation, emphasized that this improvement will significantly benefit passengers, offering direct routes to their destinations.
“With the introduction of the Y junction, passengers will no longer need to interchange at Jabal Ali metro station,” stated Al Mutawa. “This enhancement is a response to the increasing ridership of Metro Red Line and reflects RTA’s dedication to enhancing public transport services.”
The new system will see trains operating alternately, with one route terminating at Expo 2020 and the other at UAE Exchange. This change aims to streamline the commuting process, reducing station crowds, waiting times, and energy consumption.
To assist passengers during the transition, RTA will deploy additional staff to guide and educate commuters. Terminal station information will be prominently displayed on digital screens and announced repeatedly to ensure clarity.
“We are confident that these improvements will exceed the expectations of our commuters,” Al Mutawa affirmed, highlighting RTA’s commitment to providing a more efficient and enjoyable journey for Dubai residents and visitors alike.
