Dubai man fined AED 5,000 for defaming nurse with false accusations in online review

A young Arab man has been convicted by the Dubai Misdemeanour Court for defaming and insulting a nurse through a negative “Google Review.” The court imposed a fine of AED 5,000, with the sentence suspended for three years. Additionally, the man’s phone was confiscated, and the offensive comments were removed from the platform.

According to a Gulf Today report, the incident began when a nurse working at a medical fitness centre in Al Karama filed a complaint, stating she was verbally abused during her duties. According to her statement, while she was drawing a blood sample from the man as part of a health card renewal process, he later posted a public complaint, accusing her of unprofessionalism.

The nurse further revealed that the man claimed she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs while performing the procedure. A colleague informed her of the offensive review, which included the accusations in both Arabic and English.

Following an investigation by the General Department of Criminal Investigation, authorities traced the account responsible for the review and detained the man. During questioning, he admitted to posting the defamatory comments. He explained that during his visit to the centre for a blood test, the nurse allegedly inserted a needle into his right hand, causing bleeding, and then attempted the procedure on the other hand. Frustrated, he decided to lodge a complaint and share his experience online.
