Two employees in Dubai have been convicted of betraying their employer’s trust after conspiring with a scammer who disappeared with cash meant for dozens of iPhones.
As reported by Gulf News, the Dubai Misdemeanor Court handed the men a one-month jail sentence, a fine of Dh146,000, and ordered their deportation.
Court records revealed that a fraudster posed as a customer and tricked the employees into handing him the money, promising them personal payouts in return. Instead of securing the iPhone 15 Pro Max devices worth Dh146,000, they delivered the cash directly to him outside the shop. The man vanished without a trace.
When confronted, the employees admitted they had been lured by the promise of easy money but claimed they, too, were left with nothing. WhatsApp exchanges, testimony, and their confessions later confirmed they had struck a deal with the fugitive beforehand.
The court said the pair “breached their employer’s trust” by joining the ruse.
