Dubai Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle 234,000 Tramadol pills into the country, hidden within a shipment of towels from an Asian nation. The discovery was made at the Sea Customs Centers in Jebel Ali and Tecom, where officers noticed irregular densities in the towel shipment during a radiation inspection.
The authority utilizes a comprehensive strategy to combat smuggling, starting with its ‘Early Warning’ system that flags potentially suspicious shipments. A blend of manual checks, X-ray scans, and K9 units further bolsters the inspection process.
Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, the director-general of Dubai Customs and CEO of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, praised the inspectors for their vigilant efforts. Rashid Al Dhabbah Al Suwaidi, acting director of Sea Customs Management at Dubai Customs, acknowledged the cunning tactics of smugglers but reaffirmed the authority’s dedication to shielding society from the dangers of drug addiction.
