A paediatric orthopaedic surgeon at a Dubai hospital has been suspended following serious allegations of botched surgeries on children in the UK. Dr. Yaser Jabbar, who was employed at Clemenceau Medical Centre (CMC) in Dubai, has been suspended from his role while investigations continue, Khaleej Times reported.
Dr. Alya Al Mazrouei, CEO of CMC, confirmed the suspension in a statement, stating the hospital took immediate action and is awaiting decisions from the relevant authorities. “CMC Hospital Dubai has been made aware of recent reports concerning allegations of misconduct and malpractice involving a physician employed at our hospital,” she said.
Dr. Jabbar is under review by the UK’s Great Ormond Street Hospital, where he practised from 2017 to 2023. Reports indicate that his surgeries resulted in serious harm to several children, including limb discrepancies and, in one case, an avoidable amputation. So far, 39 cases have been reviewed, and 22 children were found to have been harmed.
Dr. Jabbar was also listed as practising at Orthocure and Medcare Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital in Dubai’s Al Safa area. However, Medcare stated that Dr. Jabbar was never employed by the group, clarifying that he only used their facilities through Orthocure.
Further details about Dr. Jabbar’s activities in the UAE remain unclear, and it is unknown if he has performed any surgeries in the country. His name has also been removed from the speaker list at the upcoming 10th Annual MENA International Orthopaedic Congress in Dubai.
