Dubai’s Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has directed the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to study the feasibility of implementing trackless trams in eight locations across the emirate. These self-driving, eco-friendly trams would operate on virtual tracks, guided by camera-powered painted lines.
The announcement comes on the tenth anniversary of the Dubai Tram and aligns with the city’s commitment to sustainable and innovative transportation solutions.
Other transportation advancements in the UAE include the launch of the Automated Rapid Transit (ART) service in Abu Dhabi, which combines the features of a bus and a tram. Additionally, Dubai is expanding its network of dedicated bus and taxi lanes to improve public transport efficiency and support the development of autonomous vehicles.
