Dubai dispatches floating drones to clean up waters

The UAE has unveiled its inaugural floating waste collector at Dubai Harbour. The PixieDrone, a creation of the French firm, The Searial Cleaners, is ready to commence operations, equipped with cutting-edge features to enhance waste collection efficiency in the marina.

The innovative drone is armed with a video camera and remote sensing LIDAR technology, facilitating the identification and retrieval of floating debris in the water.

It can access narrow spaces and sort various types of waste, including organic matter, plastics, glass, metal, paper, cloth, and rubber. This ability to discern between different materials makes it a potent tool in efforts to rid waters of a myriad of pollutants.

Measuring 1.62 metres in length and 1.15 metres in width, the PixieDrone maintains a compact profile, yet boasts a substantial 160-litre collection capacity. It can operate autonomously for up to six hours, providing sustained cleanup operations in both salt and fresh water environments.
