Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the ‘Rail Bus,’ a sustainable and innovative mode of transport, at the World Government Summit in Dubai.
The newly introduced bus, designed for efficiency and environmental sustainability, can reach speeds of up to 100 kmph and accommodates 40 passengers. It provides a lightweight, cost-effective alternative to traditional rail systems.
According to a Gulf News report, the Rail Bus operates on a bridge equipped with solar panels, harnessing renewable energy to power the system. The initiative stems from a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between RTA and US-based Rail Bus Inc at the Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF) last year. This partnership aims to advance eco-friendly mobility solutions for Dubai’s growing transportation needs.
Additionally, RTA signed another MoU with UK-based Urban-Mass Company to explore the Floc Duo Rail system. This double-track, driverless transportation system operates on electric power, adjusting its capacity based on peak and off-peak demand.
Abdul Mohsen Kalbat, CEO of RTA’s Rail Agency, emphasized that these projects align with the authority’s strategic vision of adopting cutting-edge technologies to enhance urban mobility. He highlighted that both systems offer cost-effective and sustainable alternatives to conventional public transport.
Hatim Ibrahim, CEO of Rail Bus Inc, described the collaboration as a significant step toward revolutionizing urban transportation in Dubai, reinforcing the city’s smart and sustainable mobility goals.
