Dubai Customs successfully thwarted a large-scale attempt to smuggle Pregabalin, a controlled substance, by leveraging advanced customs technology, the authority announced on Thursday. The shipment, weighing 1 ton and 100 kilograms, was concealed in 40 barrels within incoming air cargo.
The interception, according to a Khaleej Times report, occurred at the air cargo terminal, where customs officers cross-checked shipment documents with the actual cargo. Rigorous monitoring uncovered the hidden drug, which is classified as a controlled substance in the UAE.
Following the discovery, the General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police was alerted, and legal action was taken against those involved, with representatives from Dubai Customs and Dubai Police present.
