Dubai Customs announced on Wednesday that they had intercepted 26.45kg of marijuana cleverly hidden within shipments of red onions. The authority’s vigilant inspection revealed the illicit drugs concealed in two separate air freight shipments originating from an African country.
The meticulous examination conducted by customs officials uncovered 14.85kg of marijuana concealed within bags labeled as ‘red onions’ in the first shipment. Suspicion arose upon the arrival of the initial air freight in Dubai, prompting a thorough investigation.
Utilizing advanced X-ray detection devices, authorities identified irregularities in the density of the shipment images, leading to the discovery of the hidden narcotics. A subsequent shipment from the same African country, arriving hours later under different exporter names but with similar goods description, underwent scrutiny and revealed an additional 11.6kg of marijuana upon X-ray inspection.
