In a major security operation, Dubai Customs thwarted an attempt to smuggle a staggering 300,000 pills of psychotropic drugs into the country. The drugs were discovered concealed within 136 cartons in a cargo container at Jebel Ali Port.
The seizure was made during a routine inspection of a commercial shipment that originated from an unspecified foreign country. The operation was carried out under the banner of “Siyaj”, a security control initiative spearheaded by Dubai Customs’ Inspection Division. The initiative was designed to target suspicious consignments.
Owing to meticulous investigation and detailed analysis of the shipping route, coupled with pertinent intelligence data, the Siyaj team identified the cargo as being “very high risk.” This led to the container being singled out and rerouted for an immediate intensive search upon its arrival at the port. The subsequent inspection revealed a variety of narcotics concealed within boxes inside the container.
Dubai Customs prides itself on employing cutting-edge technology in its operations, positioning the emirate at the forefront of the global fight against illicit drug trafficking. The organization remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the nation from the import of banned substances and other contraband.
Speaking on the successful operation, Marwan Al Muhairi, Senior Manager at Jebel Ali Customs Inspection Centre, emphasized Dubai Customs’ dedication to bolstering security measures. “We have significantly heightened our efforts to clamp down on drug smuggling,” Al Muhairi remarked. “Our enhanced risk management and inspection techniques form a robust barrier at Dubai’s customs checkpoints, ensuring our nation’s safety and security.”
