As Muslims around the world mark the first days of Dhul Hijjah with prayer and charity, Dubai’s leadership has delivered a powerful gesture of support to its people. On June 4, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, ordered the exemption of 303 Emirati citizens from repaying housing loans totaling Dh101 million.
According to a Khaleej Times report, the move comes under the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The loan forgiveness aligns with the spirit of Eid Al Adha and the holy season, reinforcing the country’s commitment to easing financial burdens on its citizens.
This initiative follows a similar directive from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who recently approved debt exemptions for 222 citizens, particularly retirees and individuals on social support.
Just a day prior, Sheikh Mohammed also ordered the release of 963 inmates from Dubai’s correctional facilities, pledging to settle the financial dues tied to their cases. Several emirates also took part in similar humanitarian efforts, announcing pardons and financial settlements in the lead-up to the Eid holidays.
