Dubai court jails woman, fines another for assaulting and filming police officers

A Dubai court has sentenced two Kazakh women for attacking police officers and illegally recording them inside a police station. According to a Khaleej Times report, the incident took place in January 2024 when the two were brought to Al Barsha Police Station following a dispute with a taxi driver outside Global Village.

During questioning, one of the women used her phone to film female police officers without their consent. When officers demanded the device, her companion resisted, physically assaulting them in an attempt to prevent the phone’s seizure. The scuffle left three officers with injuries, including bruises and scratches.

Testifying in court, one of the officers stated that after noticing the recording, she alerted a superior who asked for the phone. The defendant refused to comply, leading to the confrontation. Efforts to move them to a private office failed as one of the women turned violent.

The court found one defendant guilty of assault and resisting arrest, sentencing her to three months in jail followed by deportation. The second was fined Dh2,000 for violating privacy laws, and her phone was confiscated.
