Dubai court fines school employee AED2,000 for unauthorized photo of sleeping teacher

A recent incident at a private school in Dubai has resulted in a school employee being fined Dh2,000 by a Dubai court for taking and sharing an unauthorized picture of a female teacher caught sleeping on campus.

According to a report by Khaleej Times, the incident occurred during a break between classes in the teachers’ lounge. The accused, who works as an administrator at the school, reportedly took advantage of the situation and photographed the sleeping teacher without her knowledge using a mobile phone. The teacher’s face was clearly visible in the picture, which was subsequently forwarded to the school administration via WhatsApp.

The teacher filed a complaint of invasion of privacy, leading to legal action against the female employee. Despite justifying her actions as part of her job, the Dubai court found her guilty of breaching the teacher’s privacy.

In a report published by Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm, the court imposed a fine of Dh2,000 on the accused. The ruling serves as a reminder of the strict laws in the UAE against infringing on others’ privacy. Posting photographs, videos, or making comments on social media that invade someone’s privacy can lead to hefty fines of up to Dh500,000 and six months of imprisonment. This includes taking, sharing, or publishing photos or personal information with the intent to harm.
