Dubai-based Filipino basketball coach Aaron “Coach Ron” Sanchez is making waves not just in the UAE but also in his hometown of Obando, Bulacan. Known for his passion and dedication to the sport, Coach Ron has taken his advocacy to heart by conducting free basketball camps for young enthusiasts during his visits to the Philippines.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Coach Ron shared his mission of giving back to his roots by using his talent to inspire the next generation.
“Our own little way of making a difference,” he wrote, expressing gratitude to his family for their unwavering support. “To my family—especially my wife—for always supporting me. I love you, Guys! ❤️ And to all the kids who came out to train, you’re the real MVPs! Let’s keep building and inspiring together.”
Coach Ron moved to Dubai in 2007 at the age of 23, joining his sisters who believed in the brighter opportunities the UAE could offer. Over time, basketball became more than just a hobby; it turned into his profession. He currently serves as the Head Coach of Champs Academy, where he mentors young athletes and helps shape their futures.
One of the highlights of his career was being selected to form and lead Team Pilipinas UAE at the Abu Dhabi International Basketball Championship, representing the Filipino community with pride.
Despite his success abroad, Coach Ron has remained deeply connected to his roots. During his vacations in the Philippines, he hosts free basketball clinics in Obando, attracting young basketball enthusiasts eager to learn from his expertise. His initiative has even garnered support from local government officials, including Mayor Ding Valeda.
Beyond basketball, Coach Ron and his family extend their generosity by distributing food and groceries to street children and underserved families in their community.
Coach Ron’s efforts to give back extend beyond the court. One of the fruits of his labor is the opening of Go Fuel, a petrol business venture in Bocaue, Bulacan.
