Dubai Police have announced the tragic toll of road accidents on children in the city: two fatalities and 45 injuries in the last ten months. In response, authorities have initiated a child safety campaign focused on the vital role of child car seats in preventing injuries and deaths.
The campaign, titled “Child Seat, Safety and Serenity,” was launched amidst reports from Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Dubai Police’s General Department of Traffic, detailing the 47 accidents involving child passengers. The incidents have ranged in severity, with one child suffering serious injuries, 19 with medium, and 25 with minor injuries.
Al Mazroui underscored the importance of child seats and the potential risks of not using them, including the illegal act of allowing children under ten or shorter than 145cm in the front seat. Violators face fines, as the practice significantly increases the risk of harm to children in accidents.
The campaign will include community education on proper child seat use and installation, and the distribution of free child seats to parents across Dubai, emphasizing the police’s commitment to child safety on the roads.
