Dubai authorities investigate death of autistic girl allegedly strangled by grandmother

Dubai authorities are probing the heartbreaking death of an eight-year-old autistic girl who was allegedly strangled by her own grandmother inside their home.

According to a Khaleej Times report, citing police reports, the Afghan child was found unresponsive by her father—an imam—who had briefly stepped out. Upon his return, he discovered his daughter lying lifeless and immediately called for help. Paramedics pronounced the girl dead at the scene and noted visible signs of strangulation.

Initial investigations revealed that the grandmother, who was visiting Dubai on a visa, used the girl’s dress to strangle her shortly after helping her change clothes. The father told police that he had previously argued with his mother about how to care for his daughter, who was set to receive treatment in India.

Authorities identified the grandmother, N.K.S., as the last person with the child. During questioning, she confessed to the crime, claiming she was overwhelmed by the child’s condition and wanted to ease the burden on her son and daughter-in-law.

The grandmother has since been referred to the Public Prosecution as investigations continue to build the case for trial.
