Dubai is set to create an estimated 30,000 new jobs in the gaming sector as it launches the ‘Dubai Programme for Gaming 2033’, officials announced Thursday. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to position Dubai among the top 10 cities in the global gaming industry and to expand its digital economy.
The announcement came during a meeting led by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, who emphasized Dubai’s commitment to embracing global trends and fostering a technology-driven economy.
The programme aims to attract leading tech companies and professionals in digital content and experiences, providing support for a range of roles including developers, designers, and entrepreneurs. Sheikh Hamdan highlighted Dubai’s strategic position to leverage the gaming sector’s vast opportunities, including advancements in VR and AI, to enhance gaming experiences.
Focusing on talent, content, and technology, the programme will support innovators and launch specialized educational initiatives. It will also host local and international events to promote partnerships within the industry.
In parallel, Sheikh Hamdan approved the ‘Metaverse Alliance’, ‘Metaverse Guidelines’, and ‘Metaverse Pioneers’ initiatives under the ‘Dubai Metaverse Strategy’. These initiatives aim to establish a global network for metaverse professionals, provide regulatory frameworks, and equip Dubai government employees with skills in metaverse technology.
Additionally, the ‘Create Apps in Dubai’ initiative was discussed, which has successfully trained around 500 Emiratis in mobile app development in collaboration with global tech companies.
