Dubai Airports opens first Assisted Travel Lounge at DXB Terminal 2

Dubai Airports has launched its first-ever Assisted Travel Lounge at Terminal 2 of Dubai International Airport (DXB), setting a new standard for accessible travel. The lounge caters to People of Determination (POD), including those with autism and hidden disabilities, offering a safe and comfortable space within the busy airport environment.

This facility is a result of a collaboration between Dubai Airports and dnata, with plans for further expansion across other terminals. The initiative is part of a multi-million-dirham programme aimed at improving accessibility and inclusivity at DXB.

Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Airports, emphasized the importance of this initiative in making DXB more welcoming for POD. “The lounge is meticulously designed to align with Dubai’s vision of being an inclusive city for all,” he stated, highlighting the efforts to create a calm and accessible environment for travellers with diverse needs.

The design of the lounge reflects Dubai’s forward-thinking approach, with wheelchair-friendly areas, tactile surfaces, a decompression zone for those with autism, and spaces for unaccompanied minors. Special attention has been given to materials, lighting, and finishes to promote a serene atmosphere.

Jaffar Dawood, Senior Vice President of Airport Operations at dnata, noted that the lounge represents an important milestone in enhancing comfort and care for passengers with varying needs. He reiterated dnata’s commitment to making air travel more inclusive with the support of a highly trained team.

This new facility is part of Dubai Airports’ broader strategy to cater to POD travellers, which includes the Sunflower Lanyard Programme and dedicated services like autism-friendly routes and priority access for POD guests. DXB has also received multiple accolades for its commitment to accessibility, including accreditation from the Airports Council International (ACI) and certification as an autism-friendly airport.

Through these efforts, Dubai Airports aims to provide a seamless and inclusive travel experience for all guests, reinforcing its position as a leader in accessible travel services.
