According to Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, DXB has exceeded expectations by returning to its regular flight schedule ahead of its recovery timeline. Griffiths stated, “With roads in and around the airport 100% clear of water accumulation, our manpower, logistics, and facilities are operating as usual again.”
The airport had to grapple with the cancellation of 2,155 flights and the diversion of 115 others. Griffiths emphasized the collaborative efforts of Dubai Airports’ employees, airline partners, government agencies, commercial partners, and service providers in overcoming this challenge. “It has been the most challenging adverse weather event we’ve had to navigate,” Griffiths added.
Despite initial hurdles, all guests at the airport were successfully supported, with over 75,000 food packs delivered across both DXB and Dubai World Central (DWC). Griffiths acknowledged the remaining challenges, particularly in processing the baggage backlog, and thanked guests for their patience.
Expressing solidarity with affected communities and businesses across the UAE, Griffiths affirmed Dubai Airports’ commitment to supporting its employees and the wider community. As operations return to normal, guests are advised to arrive at their terminal only three hours before their flight departure time to avoid congestion and ensure smoother operations.
