Passengers traveling through Dubai International Airport (DXB) Terminal 3 can now experience a swift immigration process, thanks to the enhanced smart gates equipped with facial recognition technology. The initiative allows residents to breeze through passport control in mere seconds using just their facial and optic prints.
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA)-Dubai announced the introduction of five such updated smart gates at Terminal 3 during the Gitex Global event. While many smart gates at the airport still necessitate the scanning of passports, these advanced gates offer a more streamlined experience.
For residents eager to utilize this feature, a one-time registration with their passport or Emirates ID at DXB Terminal 3 is required. Attendees of the ongoing Gitex Global, which concludes on October 20, can also register for this service at the GDRFA pavilion.
To use the smart gates, passengers need only glance at the green light (camera) after ensuring their face is not obscured by glasses, masks, or hats. Although there’s no need to scan any ID, travelers are advised to keep their passport or boarding pass on hand should it be requested.
GDRFA-Dubai also shared its plans to expand the facial recognition service, stating that the technology will soon be available in Terminals 1 and 2 of DXB.
