Dubai Airports has issued a precautionary alert for all travelers as the UAE anticipates torrential rains, floods, and hailstorms over the upcoming weekend. The UAE’s Met Department has forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hail across the country starting from this evening, potentially leading to flooding in certain areas.
In response to the adverse weather predictions, DXB Airport posted an advisory on social media, warning passengers of possible flight delays. The announcement urged travelers to stay updated on their flight statuses with airlines, allocate extra time for travel to the airport, and consider utilizing the Dubai Metro for transportation where feasible.
Authorities in the UAE, including the police, rescue teams, paramedics, and civil defense, have assured the public of their preparedness to address any emergencies that may arise due to the inclement weather conditions.
During a press briefing on Thursday, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) emphasized the importance of residents adhering to directives issued by authorities. NCEMA reiterated that legal measures would be enforced against individuals failing to comply with regulations during emergencies, including obstructing traffic or emergency vehicles.
In accordance with UAE law, obstructing authorities during emergencies, crises, or rains, and impeding the movement of ambulance and rescue vehicles in flooded areas can result in fines of up to Dh1,000 and a 60-day confiscation of vehicles.
