Dubai airport to roll out 3D scanners letting passengers keep laptops and liquids in bags

Dubai International Airport is set to finish installing cutting-edge 3D baggage scanners across all its terminals by May 2026, according to a report by Emarat Al Youm.

The rollout has already begun at Terminal 3, introducing machines that allow travelers to keep laptops and liquids inside their bags during security checks. The new system generates high-resolution 3D images, enabling faster and more precise inspections.

“This will significantly speed up screening, reduce waiting times and enhance security,” said Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports.

The initiative forms part of the airport’s broader modernization plan aimed at easing congestion and improving efficiency at the world’s busiest hub for international travelers.

Dubai Airports is also employing artificial intelligence to forecast passenger volumes up to 24 hours in advance, allowing staff to be deployed dynamically during peak hours.

Another upcoming feature includes biometric “red carpet” corridors, where arriving passengers will be able to clear immigration in seconds without presenting physical documents. The lanes, capable of processing up to 10 travelers at a time, will debut at Terminal 3 before being expanded across other terminals.

With passenger traffic expected to hit 96 million in 2025, airport officials say these upgrades are essential to enhance capacity and maintain Dubai’s reputation for seamless travel experiences.
