Dubai Airport restricts non-passenger access during summer travel peak

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has introduced new restrictions for non-passengers as the airport prepares for the busy summer travel season from July 6 to 17. With schools in the UAE closed during July and August, this period is expected to be the peak time for family travel.

To manage the increased traffic, only passengers will be allowed inside the terminals during the peak period. According to a Khaleej Times report, airport authorities have advised those dropping off passengers to say their farewells at home. Access to the arrivals forecourts at Terminals 1 and 3 will be limited to public transport and authorized airport vehicles only.

DXB is expecting a significant surge in traffic, with an estimated 3.3 million guests passing through its terminals. Of these, 914,000 are anticipated to fly out of the airport. The busiest period will be the weekend of July 12-14, with 840,000 passengers expected, and July 13 is projected to be the single busiest day with 286,000 travelers. On average, the airport will handle around 274,000 passengers daily during this peak time.

Flydubai passengers are advised to arrive at least four hours before their departure, while passengers flying with other airlines should arrive no earlier than three hours before their flight.

The summer season is predicted to be exceptionally busy, with dnata reporting a 35% increase in international travel bookings for July and August compared to last year. Emirates Airline has also advised passengers to anticipate additional traffic on the roads leading to the airport.

Dubai Airports, the operator of DXB, has recommended travelers use the Dubai Metro to reach the airport and move between Terminals 1 and 3 to avoid road congestion. Travelers are also advised to allow extra time for check-in, security screening, and boarding.

Additional travel tips include:

Familiarize yourself with your airline’s baggage allowance and packing regulations.
Prepare for security screening by placing metal items such as watches, jewelry, mobile phones, coins, and belts in your hand luggage, and follow guidelines for carrying liquids, aerosols, and gels.
Families with children over 12 can speed up the passport control process by using smart gates.
Pack spare batteries and power banks in your hand luggage to avoid any disruptions.
