Dubai International (DXB) airport encountered significant operational challenges on Tuesday, April 16, due to unprecedented weather conditions in the UAE. The airport authority has urged people to avoid coming to the airport unless absolutely necessary, as flights continue to be delayed and diverted.
“We advise you NOT to come to the airport, unless absolutely necessary.
Flights continue to be delayed and diverted. Please check your flight status directly with your airline. We are working hard to recover operations as quickly as possible in very challenging conditions,” it said on a Facebook post.
DXB acknowledged the disruption caused by the weather, noting flooding and road blockages that have limited transportation options for arriving and departing guests. The airport is working tirelessly with emergency response teams and service partners to restore normal operations as quickly as possible, though recovery efforts are expected to take some time.
Passengers stranded at the airport have been provided with drinks and meals wherever possible, as authorities work around the clock to address the situation. Emirates and flydubai, two major airlines operating at DXB, have experienced delays and disruptions to their flights. Emirates suspended check-in for departing passengers on Wednesday, April 17, while flydubai reported cancellations and extensive delays.
Travelers are advised to check their flight status directly with their airline and allow extra time for airport arrival, as the effects of the severe weather are expected to persist into the following day.
