Dubai achieves lowest-ever road fatality rate in 2023

Dubai achieved its lowest ever road fatality rate in 2023, with only 1.6 deaths per 100,000 people, surpassing the target of reducing the rate to two. According to officials, the traffic accident fatality rate has decreased by 93% since 2007. These statistics were disclosed during a coordination meeting between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police, where they reviewed their joint efforts that contributed to this success.

In 2023, according to a Khaleej Times report, authorities recorded over 500,000 traffic violations involving pedestrian crossings, motorcycles, bicycles, and e-scooters. Other initiatives included the assessment and improvement of 29 high-risk sites, the implementation of a smart management system for public transport drivers, and targeted awareness campaigns for delivery motorcycle riders.

Additionally, the meeting covered safety requirements for the upcoming Blue Line project, a 30km metro extension expected to open in 2029 and serve 200,000 passengers daily. This line will enhance connectivity across Dubai, linking with the existing Red and Green lines at Centrepoint and Al Khor stations, respectively.
