DSWD provides over P713 million in aid for storm-hit families in the Philippines

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has extended P713.1 million in assistance to families affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (Trami) and Super Typhoon Leon (Kong-Rey), as confirmed by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) in a report on Friday, November 1.

During a briefing with the Presidential Management Staff, NDRRMC Executive Director Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno shared that the DSWD has distributed crucial supplies, including family food packs, hygiene kits, and family tents, to impacted areas. An additional P525,000 has been allocated specifically for affected municipalities in Calabarzon and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

The NDRRMC also announced the full restoration of power generation facilities, although 13 electric cooperatives are still experiencing partial power interruptions, affecting over 100,000 consumers. Meanwhile, fuel supplies remain stable, with recent deliveries replenishing gasoline stations in the Bicol Region with nearly 1.9 million liters from October 29 to 31.

In support of health needs, the Department of Health has allocated P4.5 million for water, sanitation, and nutrition supplies across impacted areas, including Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, and Bicol.

As of Saturday, November 2, the death toll from Severe Tropical Storm Kristine stands at 146, with 91 injured and 19 still missing.
