As tensions between Israel and Iran continue to escalate, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced its readiness to assist Filipinos who may be affected, especially if a mandatory repatriation is declared.
In a statement released Thursday, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to protect overseas Filipinos and their families, especially in crisis situations. This follows a series of retaliatory attacks between Israel and Iran, with the latter recently launching missile strikes in response to alleged Israeli airstrikes on its facilities.
“DSWD has expressed its readiness to provide social protection and other forms of assistance to overseas Filipinos and their children should a mandatory repatriation be called by the Philippine government,” the department said.
DSWD’s Crisis Intervention Unit, under the Protective Services Bureau, assured that returning Filipinos and their families will be eligible for various support services—including medical, food, transportation, legal, mental health, and even funeral assistance.
Meanwhile, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) remains on heightened alert and is coordinating aid efforts through its Middle East help desk, accessible via the 1348 hotline.
