Families of victims killed during Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs have strongly opposed his petition for interim release, arguing that such a move could place them at serious risk.
In a filing dated June 25, Paolina Massidda of the Office of Public Counsel for Victims (OPCV) urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to reject the former president’s request. Duterte, currently facing crimes against humanity charges before the ICC, reportedly wants temporary liberty in an undisclosed location.
Meanwhile, in the Philippines, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc lifted the suspension on the proclamation of Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro as congressman-elect of Marikina’s 1st District. This came after Comelec reversed a previous ruling that invalidated his certificate of candidacy over questions regarding his declared residence.
Teodoro, who defeated outgoing Senator Koko Pimentel in the May 2025 polls, now faces a looming legal challenge. Pimentel announced plans to question the Comelec’s ruling before the Supreme Court.
In the U.S., the Philippine Embassy in Washington issued an advisory debunking false online claims about changes in travel rules for Filipino dual citizens and green card holders. The embassy clarified that U.S. immigration policies affecting Filipinos remain unchanged.
